Devlog 1: Dual Racer - A Week of Development

Hello everyone! I’m excited to share the first devlog for my game, Dual Racer! It’s a fast-paced, minimalist game where you control two boats navigating through obstacles and collecting items — similar to the classic Two Cars, but with a unique twist.

What is Dual Racer?

In Dual Racer, you control two boats at the same time, racing across a dynamic environment. The goal is to collect hexagons while avoiding triangular obstacles. It’s a simple yet challenging concept that makes you think fast and react even faster. The boats move independently, and your reflexes are key to surviving as the pace picks up.

The Development Process

I created Dual Racer in just one week, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out. It was an intense but rewarding experience, and I’m proud of the result, especially considering the short development time. The game was made using the Godot Engine, which made the process smooth and efficient. Godot’s flexibility and ease of use made it the perfect choice for this project, allowing me to quickly prototype, test, and polish the game’s mechanics.

Art Creation

For the art, I decided to keep things clean and minimalistic, using Figma to design the assets. The boats, hexagons, and triangles are all simple shapes, but they come together to create a sleek and visually appealing experience. Figma is great for quickly mocking up designs and iterating, and it helped me keep the visual style consistent throughout the game.

What’s Next?

Now that the core gameplay is in place, I’ll be focusing on refining the mechanics, adding some fun sound effects, and polishing the overall presentation. I’m also considering some future updates, like additional boat types or new obstacles to keep the gameplay fresh and challenging.

That’s all for this first devlog! Stay tuned for more updates as I continue working on Dual Racer. Thanks for reading!
